YOGA THERAPEUTICS AS PART OF INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Yoga Survivorship Series: A Healing Path for Cancer

Yoga Instruction and Healing for Cancer Survivors was  created as a tool for recovery to help ease the unique physical and emotional needs of cancer patients and survivors.

My mission is to support cancer patients currently in treatment, and/or cancer survivors in any stage of recovery by providing safe and accessible yoga classes based in reflective practices, including mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques.

All exercise routines are designed specifically for patients coping with cancer, with an emphasis on regaining strength and flexibility, correcting postural deviations, improving lymph flow, and preventing and/or managing the debilitating side-effects of cancer surgery and treatment.

SADHANA PADA: THE PRACTICE OF YOGA-KRIYA YOGA

For people with cancer, the need to connect with the self is very important so they can activate an inner power of healing and internal support to have courage to face such sickness. When we practice yoga we connect with the Self but we need to train the mind to create awareness. “The mind and its activities, that according to yoga can influence the cancer process. The mind is an extremely powerful force that can create a state of health or destroy it".

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Practices may include, but are not limited to, asana, pranayama, meditation, sound and chanting, personal ritual, and prayer. Teaching may also include, but is not limited to, directed study, discussion, and lifestyle counseling.

Yoga therapy may address any of the dimensions of life. In the classical tradition, these are the panca kosha or the five sheaths of the human being. In contemporary terms, these may be approximated as the anatomical, physiological, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions.
